The Zoo

For those who actually read the last post, our "vacation" to Dallas had been loads of fun for the first day. Airport hotels. Chili dogs. Who could ask for more? Still, something seemed missing.
Until we got to the Dallas Zoo. I'll try to recreate this to the best of my recollection ...

We were supposed to meet with an 8-year-old ambassador to the zoo, but the poor security in the neighborhood required us to cancel this to avoid sniper fire. We ran with our heads down through the entrance where we could be guarded by the various tigers and lions (more on that later). Sinbad - who had nothing better to do - accompanied us. We were lucky to get out with our lives.
Once we were inside, however, we helped bring peace amongst the animals. Penguins were now conversing with bongos in ways that we felt were productive.
What's a bongo? Here you go ...
Bongos are endangered forest antelope in Africa, for the record.

Anderson had a great time and, as you can see, tried to touch many of the animals. On a sad note, the only lion in the Dallas Zoo (Boris) died yesterday at the young age of 17 ... presumably by sniper fire. Here's the link ...

Finally we left the zoo and drove home, stopping at a McDonald's drivethru for a quick bite to eat. The woman at the register had a button stating "God is good." Clearly, however, she was not divinely inspired to provide anything close to quick service. After 10 minutes of waiting with only one car ahead of us, we decided to drive on. As luck would have it, we stopped at "The Czech Stop" gas station in "West" Texas. As Natalie is of Slovak descent, we were hoping to get some traditional Slovak/Czech food. You know ... pork sausage, chicken sausage, duck sausage, blood sausage, armadillo sausage, orangutan sausage and the sort. Perhaps this is why Slovakia ranks 72nd on average life expectancy? Hmmm ...

I digress. The Czech Stop was crazy busy. Who would have guessed there would be a line 20 people deep for Czech bakery cakes (all made - I'm certain - of sausage)? And so ended our "vacation". We'll be off to Slovakia in 3 weeks for a wedding and to introduce Anderson to Natalie's grandmother for our next vacation. Here's some more pictures ...
Pondering what it would be like to be a penguin ...
